WHY?

Why may be a small word, but it is no small question. The answer to why motivates us, inspires us and keeps us inquisitive, innovative and compassionate. For the Henry County Women's Recovery Center our why is wrapped up in stories.
Stacy Cooper started using at the young age of 16. She has spent most of her life attempting to recover from addiction and the trauma that it has caused in her life. Stacy admits that she has spent far too much time and energy on methods of coping that never helped her deal with the grief, abandonment, betrayal and abuse that are the underlying reasons for her addiction.
Stacy has been admitted to seven rehab facilities, has been incarcerated in county, city and even federal facilities. She has been admitted multiple times into psych wards and mental institutions and none of these typical avenues for recovery gave her hope. They all left her feeling alone, traumatized and looking for her next "fix".
All that changed, however, when she found the Henry County Women's Recovery Center. "The remarkable thing about this class is that it has healed me more than any of the others (recovery programs) combined. The Henry County Women's Recovery Center Day Program is patient, graceful, professional, effective and merciful. It holds me accountable and shows me I am not alone. I see God in it."
Stacy talks about how she often sees people out in the community that she used to use with. She can't wait to tell each of them about the authentic liberation that she has found through the HCWRC program. "I am free, I don't have to fight anymore, and I want everyone to experience that too."
As Stacy continues to attend classes and work through her own recovery, she has hope. Hope not just for her future but also for the future of Henry County. Stacy believes that there is a big wave of recovery moving through Henry County. She sees it. "People have had enough and when they see those who are like-minded recovering (like Stacy) it gives them the willingness to try and hope for their future."
Stacy is grateful to all those who continue to make the Henry County Women's Recovery Center possible. Stacy is grateful for you!
WHO?

Much like the question of why, who has its own big answers. Who is helping to grow the women's faith in themselves? Who is inquisitive, creative and innovative? The answer is our amazing volunteers.
Volunteers like Shelia Lankford who facilitates a Bible study with the women in our program weekly. Shelia also participates in a bimonthly prayer team that covers not only the organization of HCWRC with prayer but also every woman that is involved. When asked why Shelia volunteers with HCWRC she said this. "Henry County is my community and I want to serve this community. I have dealt with addiction in my family, and I see the need in this community for this service. I chose this particular group because I believe that a faith-based addiction ministry is vital to changing our community in this area."
Shelia is a beautiful example of how HCWRC is effecitvely changing the lives of women recovering from the bondage of addiction. She is our "who" and we celebrate her!
